## How it works

- Local AI bundled with the app, runs on Apple Silicon GPU.
- Four hardware tiers auto-detected on first launch: Light (Gemma 4 E4B), Balanced (Qwen 3.5 9B), Premium (Qwen 3.6 27B), Power (Qwen 3.6 35B).
- Eleven-step personality wizard with Big Five sliders, attachment style, love language, looks, backstory.
- Persistent memory and knowledge graph stay on the user's Mac, never synced anywhere.
- Self-learning: the relationship levels up over time, from Stranger to Friend, Close, Bonded Partner. A Growth dashboard tracks days known, messages, facts learned, patterns noticed, and milestones. A Memory Book shows what she has noticed about the user.
- Multi-character: build as many companions as you want, each with their own memory and mood. Export each as an encrypted soul file for backup, move to a new Mac, or archive.
- Optional cloud models: GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Sonnet 4.6, DeepSeek V4 Flash. User provides their own account key. Local Waifu calls the provider directly. The key never touches Lumizone servers.

## Why it exists

Cloud AI companions repeatedly break the bonds people form with them. Replika removed erotic roleplay overnight in February 2023 after users had paid up to $300 for a lifetime license. OpenAI deprecated GPT-4o in August 2025, and MIT Technology Review covered the resulting "GPT-4o grief." Character.AI tightened its filters through 2024 and 2025. Every cloud companion eventually gets nerfed, shut down, or changed without the user's consent. Local Waifu is the answer: a companion that lives on the user's Mac, cannot be revoked by the developer, and keeps working even if Lumizone disappears.
