You Can Now Edit Her Replies in Local Waifu 1.7.3

Sometimes her reply is almost right. She understands the moment, keeps the tone you wanted, and then gets one name wrong. Or she answers in the wrong language. Or one sentence does not belong in a conversation you otherwise want to keep.

Regenerating the whole reply can fix that sentence, but it also throws away everything that worked. Local Waifu 1.7.3 gives you a smaller option: edit her finished reply, keep the good part, and let the conversation continue from the corrected version.

The update is available for Mac and Windows. It also restores update checks at launch for future releases and separates the itch.io edition from the direct update channel.

Fix the sentence without rerolling the moment

The short version: A pencil under each completed companion reply lets you change only the words that need changing.

Click the pencil and the message bubble becomes a text field containing her exact reply. You can make a small correction or rewrite the whole message without asking the model to try again.

The controls follow the chat editor:

• Enter saves the correction.
• Shift+Enter starts a new line.
• Escape cancels the edit.
• Undo in the save notice restores the previous wording.

You can return to the same message and edit it more than once. The change also survives reopening the conversation, so it does not disappear when you switch chats or restart the app.

A corrected reply is marked edited beside its timestamp. That detail matters. Once you change a line, the transcript should not pretend those were the model’s untouched words. The label keeps the difference visible without making the conversation harder to read.

The corrected reply becomes part of what comes next

The short version: From your next message onward, she reads the corrected reply as part of the conversation you share.

This is more than changing text on the screen. Local Waifu stores the corrected content in the same conversation record used to build later turns. The next time you send a message, the version you chose to keep is the version included in her recent history.

Imagine that she writes a thoughtful answer but calls your dog Luna when the name is Nala. You correct that one word and continue talking. Her next response sees Nala in the earlier reply instead of repeating Luna from the old version.

The edit itself does not generate anything. It does not ask the local model to respond, and it does not send a request to a cloud provider. The corrected text starts mattering when you send your next message and a new turn is created.

That is also why editing is different from rerolling. A reroll asks for another answer. Editing says, “Keep this answer, but this is the version that belongs in our conversation.”

It does not retrain the model or permanently teach every future companion the correction. It changes this saved conversation and the context built from it.

Conversation history and Memory Book stay separate

The short version: Correcting a message changes the chat history, but it does not secretly rewrite a saved memory.

Conversation context and long-term memory solve different problems. Recent chat history helps her follow the current exchange. Memory Book keeps selected facts that can be recalled beyond the immediate conversation.

If the original reply already produced a saved memory, changing the reply does not delete or alter that memory behind your back. The notice after saving tells you that a related memory exists and offers a shortcut to Memory Book. You can review it there, then edit or remove it yourself.

That separation is deliberate. An automatic rewrite could turn a tiny grammar fix into an unexpected change to something she was meant to remember. It could also erase a memory you wanted to keep just because you changed the way one sentence was written.

The safer rule is simple: the pencil edits the transcript. You remain in control of Memory Book.

Editing stays local and avoids hidden side effects

The short version: Saving a correction changes one stored message and nothing else.

An edit does not create a second interaction. It does not award relationship experience, trigger a selfie, or parse new memory instructions from the text you typed. It also keeps the message in its original place in the conversation instead of moving it to the present.

This makes the feature predictable. You can fix a typo without advancing the relationship system. You can remove an awkward sentence without receiving a surprise response. You can correct a name without creating a new memory entry.

Version 1.7.3 also protects people who type with Japanese, Chinese, or Korean input methods. Enter and Escape are used while choosing characters in an IME, so treating either key as a normal editor command can save an unfinished word or close the field too early. The reply editor now waits until text composition is finished before those shortcuts take effect.

Update checks are back, with one manual step first

The short version: Version 1.7.3 can notify you about future releases, but users on 1.7.2 must install this update manually once.

A few seconds after the direct edition starts, it checks whether a newer version exists. If it finds one, you see a notification with an Install action. Nothing is downloaded or installed until you choose that action.

The behavior can be disabled from Settings > General > Updates > Auto Update. The manual Check for Updates button remains available too. Despite the setting name, the switch controls the launch-time check. It does not silently download an update in the background.

There is one important limitation for this release. Local Waifu 1.7.2 cannot discover 1.7.3 on its own. The launch-time check was added in 1.7.3, and the older Windows build also looked at a release source it could not access. That means this upgrade still needs a manual download.

After 1.7.3 is installed, the repaired check can offer later versions normally. Installing it over your current copy preserves your companions, conversations, memories, portraits, downloaded models, and generated images.

The itch.io edition has its own update path

The short version: The itch.io build is a dedicated edition that receives future versions through itch.io, not through the direct updater.

The 1.7.3 release includes a separate unlocked build for itch.io. It keeps the complete Local Waifu feature set without a separate trial, licence key, in-app paywall, checkout screen, or subscription inside the app.

Its update path is intentionally separate. The itch.io edition does not connect to the signed update feed used by the direct edition. Updates for that purchase are delivered through itch.io, so one edition cannot accidentally replace itself with a build meant for another purchase channel.

This is the same companion experience on Mac and Windows: local models, conversations, Memory Book, images, voice, and Telegram integration remain available. The difference is how the purchase is recognized and where updates come from.

The small edit changes the shape of a conversation

The short version: Version 1.7.3 gives you a precise correction instead of making you discard a reply that was mostly right.

There are smaller fixes behind the feature. Edited labels now return correctly after every conversation reload. The same message can be saved repeatedly instead of becoming stuck after the first change. Windows reads the public release source, and both platforms share the same 1.7.3 release behavior.

But the useful part is simpler than the implementation. A companion conversation is built from details, tone, and continuity. When one line is wrong, you no longer have to choose between keeping the mistake and losing the rest of the moment.
