Local Waifu 1.7.4 opens chats at the latest message, repairs search navigation, and restores the original reply after a failed retry. Windows gains release-signature verification for updates downloaded by 1.7.4.
You come back from Memory Book, ready to answer her last message, and the chat opens at the top instead. Or you find a line through search, click it, and still cannot see the message you were looking for. Neither should interrupt a conversation.
Local Waifu 1.7.4, released on October 10, 2026 for Mac and Windows, fixes those interruptions. The focus is on returning to the right place and keeping an existing reply visible when asking for another one fails. Windows also gets a safer update download path.
Come back to the latest message
The short version: Opening a chat takes you to the latest message, not a saved position somewhere in the history.
This applies at launch, after returning from Memory Book or Gallery, and when switching window modes. Changing to a longer conversation no longer leaves you in the middle of it. On Mac, that includes moving between full, mini, and menubar mode.
Photos need a little care here. If you are at the bottom and a photo she sent finishes loading, the chat follows its changing height so the latest exchange stays in view. But if you have scrolled up to read earlier messages, it leaves you there.
That distinction matters: returning to a conversation should bring you to the present. Choosing to read its past should not become a struggle against the scroll bar.
Search brings you to the message you chose
The short version: A search result can open another conversation and load older messages before scrolling to the match.
Use Cmd+F on Mac or Ctrl+F on Windows to search across a character’s conversations. Previously, a result in another chat or beyond the most recent 50 messages could fail to take you anywhere useful. Windows also had trouble navigating to messages sent during the current session.
Version 1.7.4 repairs that navigation. Clicking a result opens the right conversation and loads history to reach the selected message, within the loading window.
This is not unlimited history navigation. The helper loads up to 500 messages; a very old match can still sit outside that window. Search covering multiple conversations does not mean every result can always be brought onto the screen, however far back it is.
A failed retry keeps the reply you already had
The short version: If “Try again” fails, the original answer is restored and the error appears as a notification.
Asking for a different answer should not leave you with no answer at all. Before this fix, a failed retry could hide her original reply. On Mac, an error could replace it until the next restart.
Now the failure is reported without taking that existing response away. You can still read what she said rather than reopening the app to recover it.
If the answer only needs one correction, reply editing from version 1.7.3 remains a separate option. Editing changes the words you choose; “Try again” asks for a new response.
Smaller windows and a clearer fresh start
The short version: The creator and supporting windows scroll when space is tight; resetting the database remains a destructive action.
The character creator, photo cropper, and feedback windows now scroll in small windows. The creator also drops the old onboarding step numbers, so making another character does not look like continuing the first setup.
After Reset Database, creating a character asks your name first. The empty chat shows a clear “create a character” screen instead of an unclear welcome state.
On Windows, that reset now removes photos and portraits too. This is part of deliberately resetting your data, not an effect of installing 1.7.4. Do not use Reset Database as an update step or a casual fix if you want to keep those files.
Windows checks update files before running them
The short version: The updater in 1.7.4 verifies Windows downloads against the release signature and rejects files that do not match.
Previously, the Windows check only established that the download came from GitHub. Version 1.7.4 checks the installer against the release signature while downloading, using the same verification key as the Mac updater. A file that fails verification is deleted rather than run.
This protection belongs to the updater inside 1.7.4. An older installed version does not gain signature verification retroactively when downloading this release.
Windows allows only one update download at a time. On Mac, choosing Install from both the launch notification and Settings no longer starts two installers on top of each other.
Direct-edition updates require a license; Windows now explains that requirement during the trial, as Mac already does. The itch.io edition follows its store update path instead. License wording on both platforms now covers your own devices within fair use, without a hard device count or a deactivation step to free a slot.
Windows settings give clearer answers
The short version: Offline Mode blocks cloud key tests and live cloud model lists, and several previously silent or untranslated screens are corrected.
Windows onboarding validates a provider key before saving it. With Offline Mode enabled, Test key and live model-list requests for cloud providers are blocked. These are specific controls, not a claim that Offline Mode is a system firewall.
Settings > Image Models lists cloud image providers again. Dropping a non-image file onto chat now explains the problem instead of failing silently. The adaptation panel, error screen, knowledge browser, and affected Image Models text are translated across all seven languages. Mac’s Check for Updates row and trial notice are translated too.
The full changelog records the release details, while the guide covers everyday setup and use. The main change is quieter: when you return to her, the conversation is where you expect it to be.
Questions people ask
Does Local Waifu 1.7.4 restore my saved scroll position?
No. Opening a conversation takes you to its latest message. While you scroll up to read earlier messages, new photo loading does not pull you back to the bottom.
Can search open every message in an unlimited history?
Search covers a character's conversations, but navigation has a loading limit. The helper loads up to 500 messages to reach a result, so very old matches can remain outside that window.
Does the new Windows signature check protect the upgrade from an older version?
The signature check is performed by version 1.7.4 when it downloads an update. It does not retroactively change the updater in an older installed version.
