Deeper thinking is a single switch in Settings, Performance. On, she reasons before she answers, and a small thought badge marks the replies where that happened. Off, replies come back faster with no badge at all. It is one toggle on purpose, trading speed for a more considered, and more visible, answer.
There is a small thought bubble that shows up next to some of her replies now, and it means exactly what it looks like: she thought about that one before answering.
One switch, in Settings, Performance
The short version: it is called Deeper thinking, it lives in Settings, Performance, and it is off by default.
The description in the app says it plainly: “Let her reason before replying, more considered, but slower. Off is faster and more responsive.” That is the whole trade in one sentence, and flipping the switch is the whole setup.
It is really two things, not one
The short version: the same toggle turns on her actual reasoning and the visible thought badge together. There is no way to have one without the other.
Turn it on and two things happen at once. She reasons through the question before writing her reply, the way you might think for a second before answering something that matters. And the app shows you a small badge on replies where that reasoning happened, a little window into a step you would otherwise never see.
Turn it off and both disappear. No hidden reasoning, no badge, just her regular reply, faster.
Why bundle them
Showing a thought badge on every reply, whether or not there was real reasoning behind it, would just be decoration. So the app only shows one when there is something real behind it, which means the badge and the reasoning have to move together. One switch, two honest effects, instead of a setting that quietly lies about what happened.
When to flip it on
Simple exchanges do not need it, and you probably will not notice much beyond the extra second or two. It earns its keep on the harder asks: something she needs to weigh, a decision with more than one angle, a question where you want to see that she actually worked through it rather than answered on reflex.
Try it for a day on the questions that usually feel a little too quick, and see whether the extra second changes what comes back.
Update to the latest version if you have not already (Settings, General, Check for updates, or download fresh), then look for Deeper thinking under Settings, Performance.
Questions people ask
Where do I turn this on?
Settings, Performance, Deeper thinking. It is off by default.
What is the small thought badge I sometimes see?
It marks a reply where she actually reasoned before answering. It only appears when Deeper thinking is on, because that is the only time there is real reasoning behind it to show.
Does it slow down every reply?
Only while it is on. Reasoning first and answering second takes longer than answering straight away, so on trades some speed for a more considered reply. Off is the faster, more responsive default.
Does it change what she says, or just how she gets there?
Both, a little. She works through the question before committing to an answer, which tends to help on trickier or more layered asks. On simple exchanges you may not notice much difference beyond the extra second or two.
