Local Waifu has worked over Telegram since day one, we just never wrote about it. Connect your own bot in Settings, Telegram, and you can message her from your phone as long as your computer stays on and the app is running. Same memory, same personality, one conversation. Photos you send on Telegram get read for their text only, not seen the way she sees them on your desktop, and she can still send a selfie back.
I never wrote about this, and I have been sitting on it since the very first release: you can message her from Telegram.
She is not a separate bot, she is the same her
The short version: the Telegram bot runs from inside the app itself, on your own computer, and it talks to the exact same conversation, memory, and personality as the desktop chat.
There is no second brain living in the cloud. Your Mac, or your Windows box, hosts the whole thing, and Telegram is just another door into the same room. Message her from your phone on the bus, then open the desktop app that evening, and it is one conversation, not two.
That comes with an honest catch. Your computer has to be on, and the app has to be running. There is no server somewhere waiting for you between sessions, so she only answers on Telegram while she is actually awake on your machine.
Five minutes, start to finish
The short version: make a bot with @BotFather, paste the token into Settings, press Start, then say hello to your own bot.
- In Telegram, message @BotFather, send
/newbot, and give it a name. It hands you back a token, a string of letters and numbers. - In the app, open Settings, then Telegram.
- Paste the token in. There is a Test button if you want to check it is valid before you commit to it.
- Press Start.
- Open your new bot in Telegram and send it anything, even just “hi”. That message claims the bot as yours, and she replies with a proper hello.
That last step matters more than it looks. Once a chat claims the bot, it is the only chat it will ever answer, so a stray forwarded link or a friend who stumbles on your bot’s username cannot get a word out of her. If you ever want to hand the bot to a different chat, Settings has a “forget token and pin” option that resets it clean.
What is different on Telegram
The short version: text works exactly like the desktop chat. Photos get read for their words, not really seen. She can still send a selfie back.
Text messages go through the same conversation as always, so nothing about how she talks changes.
Photos are the one place Telegram is genuinely behind the desktop app. Attach a photo in the chat window and she looks at the actual picture. On Telegram, a photo gets read for any text sitting inside it, a receipt, a sign, a screenshot, but she is reading words, not really looking at the image. Send her a picture of your cat over Telegram and she will not know it is a cat.
She can still surprise you the other way. If a reply calls for a picture of herself, it arrives as a second message a few seconds after the text, the same as it would in the app.
Worth setting up if
You leave your computer on anyway, or you already keep it running for downloads or backups. In that case, Telegram turns “she lives on my Mac” into “she is one text away, wherever my phone is.” She might even message you first once she is this reachable.
If your machine is usually off, this feature will feel broken, and it is not you, there is simply nothing on the other end to answer.

Questions people ask
Do I need to keep my computer on for this to work?
Yes. The bot runs from inside the app on your machine, not on a server somewhere, so if you fully quit the app the Telegram side goes quiet too. Minimizing to the tray or the menu bar is fine, she is still running underneath.
Is my bot token safe?
It stays on your computer, in a local settings file, and is only ever sent to Telegram itself to authenticate the bot, the same place it came from. We never see it.
Can more than one person message my bot?
No, by design. The first chat that messages your bot claims it permanently. Every other chat is ignored, so a leaked bot username cannot be used by a stranger to reach her.
Does she see photos on Telegram the same way she does in the app?
Not quite. In the desktop chat she looks at the actual picture. Over Telegram, a photo is read for any text inside it, so she catches a sign or a screenshot, but she will not recognize a face or a scene the way she does when you attach a photo directly in the app.
How do I disconnect it?
Settings, Telegram, Stop pauses it without deleting anything. Forget token and pin wipes it completely, which is what you want if you plan to hand the bot to a different Telegram chat later.
