Characters, Persona Notes, and Backstory
Create characters and edit personality notes, portraits, and backstory.
Follow the bold button names and numbered steps. Technical names are included only when you need to recognize a model or file inside the app.
Each character has independent conversations, mood, relationship state, memory, knowledge, portrait, and character-specific voice choice.
Switch or create a character
Goal
Use several independent companions without mixing their memories.
Steps
- Open Settings → Characters.
- Select another character to make it active, or select Create new.
- Complete the character flow.
- Return to chat.
Expected result
Chat loads the selected character’s conversation and state. Switching does not merge the other characters’ memories.
Persona Notes
Persona Notes provide plain instructions about how the active character carries herself: tone, habits, mannerisms, and other guidance. Save an empty value if you intentionally want no override.
Use concise behavioral notes rather than a full story. Put world facts, places, and recurring lore in Backstory/Lorebook.
Portraits
- Use a normal image recognized by the operating system.
- Maximum file size is 5 MB.
- The portrait editor crops to a 3:4 frame before saving.
- Removing the portrait returns the UI to initials or a dynamic avatar.
Backstory and Lorebook
Each Lorebook entry has:
- title;
- comma-separated keywords;
- content;
- priority;
- enabled/disabled state.
An entry with keywords is added to context when those triggers occur. An entry with no keywords is always active and consumes context on every turn. Prefer specific triggers for information that is not always needed.
Add a Lorebook entry
- Open Settings → Backstory.
- Add an entry.
- Enter a clear title.
- Add comma-separated trigger words.
- Write the lore or instruction.
- Choose priority and enabled state.
- Save.
Delete only after confirming Delete this lore entry?.
