Understand the Two Editions
See how Direct and Store/Unlocked editions differ.
Follow the bold button names and numbered steps. Technical names are included only when you need to recognize a model or file inside the app.
Direct edition
The Direct edition includes:
- a full 7-day trial;
- optional license activation during onboarding;
- Settings → License;
- a lifetime purchase link;
- a paywall after the trial expires;
- the Direct update channel.
The trial starts after onboarding is completed, not when the installer is downloaded or first opened.
Store/Unlocked edition
The Store/Unlocked edition includes:
- full access after onboarding;
- no trial countdown;
- no in-app license key;
- no License tab;
- no Direct paywall;
- no Direct updater.
Chat, memory, image, voice, and Telegram features remain available. Updates must come from the Store channel that supplied the build.
Local Waifu 1.7.3 does not contain a separate Steamworks integration. A future Steam package should be treated as a Store/Unlocked distribution unless its documentation states otherwise.
Do not install both editions side by side
Direct and Store builds use the same application identity and data location. They are not designed to be independent side-by-side installations. Before switching editions:
- export important characters;
- create a full backup;
- quit Local Waifu;
- install only the edition you intend to keep;
- verify your data before deleting the backup.
