Install on Windows

Install Local Waifu on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Follow the bold button names and numbered steps. Technical names are included only when you need to recognize a model or file inside the app.

Run the installer

Goal

Install Local Waifu and start the correct Windows edition.

Before you start

  • Use Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 x64.
  • Download the installer only from the official Direct release or your Store library.
  • Close any earlier Local Waifu process before updating.
  • Make a backup before replacing an existing installation.

Steps

  1. Run Local Waifu_1.7.3_x64-setup.exe or the corresponding Store/Unlocked installer.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen appears, confirm that the file came from the official source.
  3. Select More info, then Run anyway only when you trust the downloaded file.
  4. Follow the installer and keep the suggested location unless you have a reason to change it.
  5. Let the installer add WebView2 if Windows does not already have it.
  6. Start Local Waifu.
  7. Allow the first startup and antivirus scan to finish. The large installer and bundled AI processes may take longer to scan.

Expected result

Local Waifu opens to onboarding. GPU detection may continue in the background.

If something goes wrong

  • Restart Windows and retry if an old Local Waifu or local-engine process is still running.
  • Repair or install Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime if the window is blank.
  • Check antivirus quarantine for the official installer and bundled AI processes.
  • Verify free disk space.
  • Remember that moving the program installation folder does not move conversations or models; user data is stored separately.
