Generate Images and Use Gallery
Choose an image model, test it, and use Photo Director and Gallery.
Follow the bold button names and numbered steps. Technical names are included only when you need to recognize a model or file inside the app.
Open Settings → Models → Image Models to choose local or cloud image generation.
Choose a provider and model
Local image generation is private and has no provider fee, but it needs a one-time model download and enough RAM. The UI offers models such as fast FLUX/Z-Image options and larger SDXL models oriented toward anime or photographic styles. The exact catalog can change in later releases.
Cloud providers such as OpenAI, Google AI, fal.ai, xAI, or Together AI require your own provider account/key and send the prompt to that service.
Install a built-in local image model
Goal
Prepare local image generation and verify it works.
Before you start
- Keep at least several gigabytes free.
- Local generation requires approximately 12 GB RAM for the base route; larger SDXL options are intended for 16 GB or more.
- Generation time depends heavily on the computer and model.
Steps
- Open Settings → Models → Image Models.
- Select Local: Stable Diffusion.
- Choose a model and start its download.
- Wait for downloaded/ready.
- Start with the recommended quality step count.
- Under Test Generation, enter a simple English prompt.
- Select Generate.
Expected result
A test image appears and confirms that the selected local model can render.
If something goes wrong
- Check RAM and free disk space.
- Wait for a model download or another render to finish.
- Reduce quality steps or use a lighter model.
- On Windows, verify image-generation runtime status.
Use Photo Director
Photo Director creates a new pose, outfit, framing, or scene for the active character while using the saved portrait as an identity reference.
It requires:
- an active character;
- a saved portrait;
- the supported ready local FLUX.2 klein model;
- a working local image backend.
Enter the scene, optionally choose pose/outfit/shot presets, then select Generate [character]. Use Verify selected local model to test the local-only route without silently falling back to cloud.
Gallery
Gallery stores images sent or generated through the companion experience. Treat it as part of private app data: include it in full backups and remember that character JSON export is not a complete gallery archive.
